An international research team, including Tomasz Sawoszczuk, Ph.D., Professor at KUE, studied the odor of nine mummies in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo as part of the international Odotheka project, funded by NCN. Using modern techniques, the aromas of resins, oils and incense, key to ancient embalming, were detected. Chemical analysis made it possible to classify the compounds according to their origin. Researchers emphasize the role of the smells in understanding history and plan to reconstruct them to enhance the museum visitor experience.
